Company History

1980 - American Metal Fibers, Inc. was established in Northfield, Illinois to market steel fibers to the automotive brake manufacturing industry. With emphasis on quality and service, American Metal Fibers, Inc. developed a series of client relationships that brought American Metal Fibers, Inc. to the position of a preferred supplier.

January 2nd 1985 - American Metal Fibers, Inc. opened its manufacturing operation in a new facility in Lake Bluff, Illinois. The production of INOXTM stainless steel wool and INOXTM Matrix Pads, followed in the late 1980's. This expansion included testing and new product innovation activities which resulted in the increased production of filtration products for the expanding international client base.

January 2nd 2000 - American Metal Fibers Inc. moved it's headquarters to a new 60,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and headquarters location. The new headquarters compliment American Metal Fibers Inc. existing production facility to better serve the increasing international client base. American Metal Fibers Inc. continued expansion includes international filtration projects, and the integration of a client responsive manufacturing software management system that fully interfaces with major automotive and manufacturing clients.

Technical Innovations

1980 - Pioneered the currently accepted standards for testing of chopped steel fibers for use in brake linings.
1986 - Introduced stainless steel Combi-Tubes® for automotive exhaust systems.
1987 - Began production of stainless steel matrix pads for magnetic separators.
1990 - Pioneered the production of copper fibers for friction materials.
1991 - Introduced the first high temperature sound absorbent muffler packs.
1995 - Patented sand control filters for oil and water wells.
1998 - Introduced SandblockerT water well filters.
1999 - Developed GBF-22 continuous filament basalt for automotive exhaust systems.
2000 - Introduced BR industrial filter elements for removal of bacteria and sulfur smell.
2001 - Pioneered development of low cost fine fibers using high temperature alloys such as nickel/chrome/aluminum/ iron and chrome/aluminum/yttrium/iron alloys.
